Jacob and I drove south of the Jetty and we found blown out close outs. We went back to LM for a short session and caught sub par waves. LM was definitely better yesterday.

We didn't teach my sister how to surf this past weekend because we were so busy hiking, seeing elephant seals and celebrating her birthday. Next time she comes, we are going to make sure that she surfs with us.
This morning, Jacob and I went to LM to meet up with Kyle. We saw Chris and Tracey there. They decided to surf on the south end while we headed north. I caught 2 really good head high lefts and some of the other waves were close outs. Jacob and Kyle caught some nice waves too. I hadn't been in the water since Friday and I could feel it. I wasn't paddling as fast and my endurance was down. I have to stay in surf shape!
We will have a booth at Ring Into Spring Festival in Santa Cruz on Sunday, March 13th. If you are in the area, come check us out from 10pm-5pm. You can get more details on the events page.

With a busy week of meetings, Friday was the only day I got to surf so
far. I checked on Thursday and the ocean denied me. Surf was blown out
and the fog was so heavy in areas that I couldn't see the waves.
My sister, Cindy arrived on Thursday night to spend her birthday weekend
with Jacob and me. Friday, I had another meeting and after Cindy and I
had lunch and went on a hike around LM. Cindy is training for a 1/2
marathon so she wanted to go running and that was a perfect time for me
to catch some waves! I went to LM for a short session, but was happy to
be in the water with only a couple people out. I needed to get wet even
if the waves weren't that great.
Jacob and I are going to teach Cindy how to surf again since she
hasn't tried in awhile. I'll let you know how that goes.

A bunch of us (Jacob, Chris, John, Nate, Cynthia, Beth and Luke) went south of the Jetty for a wave filled session. There was one other guy out there that we met in the parking lot named, Jeff. He is also a transplant from Boston (specifically Gloucester, MA). At the end of the session, Heather and Clayton (friends of Luke's that we just met today) paddled out for a couple waves.
I caught a lot of waves today, but the most memorable waves were party waves with Cynthia and Luke. Cynthia caught the party wave that Luke and I caught together on video. I am in the front and Luke is right behind me. Check it out below:
This was one of my best sessions in awhile thanks to fun waves and friends.
After we were done surfing, all of us did a memorial Paddle Out near Mavericks for Beth's father that passed away 2 weeks ago. We never met him, but she really wanted to do this in his honor. (All Photos taken by Carolina)

Today we went south of the Jetty with our friends, John and Nate. They're visiting from Boston because their company was recently acquired by Solar City in San Mateo, CA. They are training with Solar City for 2 weeks.
We wanted to hang out with them so we invited them to stay with us for the weekend. John use to surf with us in Massachusetts and Nate has tried surfing a couple times. We checked LM and Jetty and both were sub par. We headed south and found some great waves. No other surfers were out, glassy, offshore, head high waves with fun dropins and fast rides. It was a perfect place for Nate to learn because he could take the white water.
Half way through the session, I realized that I was taken really far by the rip current. I couldn't find Jacob or our friends anywhere and decided to paddle in. I was disoriented and walked up and down the beach and still couldn't find them. John finally came into sight and I ran towards him and told him what happened. He said he saw me looking around and realized that I was looking for everyone.
Even though I had was carried away by the current, I had a great session. It was so great to surf with friends from the East Coast again!
